Since my retirement, my passions are nature photography (especially bird photography), landscape photography, and travel photography.
I have traveled and photographed sites along the Lewis and Clark Trail, the Oregon Trail, the Mormon Trail, the Santa Fe Trail, and the Bozeman Trail. I have photographed Abraham Lincoln sites throughout Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. Most recently I have begun visiting and photographing Civil War battlefields and museums throughout the country
My bird and wildlife photography has taken me to sites throughout the state of Illinois and also to sites throughout the state of Florida.
I have participated in 50 Elderhostel / Road Scholar programs throughout the country and many of my photo galleries shows memories of those wonderful experiences.
I am a lucky man to have had a job that I loved teaching biology in high school for 33 years and now I love my travel and photography "retirement". Please enjoy my photo galleries.
One of my favorite, but more challenging passions in my life is photographing birds. Birds seem more acclimated to human activity in Florida than in my native state of Illinois, so I often travel there to pursue this passion.
In this category I have placed my best photos of certain
bird species that I have captured over the years.
I have now attended 52 Road Scholar programs around the country on various topics.
These galleries hightlight some of the sights and activities experienced on my
Road Scholar journeys.
Landscape photography is not my favorite type of photography, but there many places that I travel where I cannot resist the enticement of nature's beauty.
In addition to photographing birds, may other types of organisms present special attractions and challenges to being photographed. Most of this category was photographed in Illinois, but other sites are also represented.
As a lifetime resident in the "Land of Lincoln" (Illinois), I have always had an interest in the early life of our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. I have visited and photographed Lincoln sites throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. In the past two years celebrating the Bicentennial of Lincoln's birth I have presented over 35 slide presentation about Lincoln to organizations throughout Illinois. Here are some examples of my Lincoln studies.
For the past few years while traveling Western trails, I intentionally passed by Civil War sites. With my somewhat obsessive personality, I felt the subject too large for me to start in my advanced years.
In 2012, I decided to throw caution to the wind and began to visit and photograph Civil War sites. I have visited the Andersonville Prison Camp site, a number of Prison Camp sites in Illinois, the Civil War Medical Museum in Frederick, Maryland, and the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore which has a wonderful display about Railroads and the Civil War ("The War Came by Train). I have visited and photographed Civil War Battle sites in Manassas, Antietam, Gettysburg, Harper's Ferry, Fort Donelson and many others. I hope you will enjoy my photos of those historic sites.
