Following my retirement as a biology teacher, I have devoted my time to two new passions....photography and travel.
I love photographing wildlife (mostly birds) in their environment. I have photographed birds in the Everglades, at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, at St. Augustine Florida Alligator Farm and many other sites in Florida. I also photograph birds and wildlife in my home state of Illinois. While traveling I am always on the outlook for wildlife photography opportunities.
I also love photographing historical sites. I have traveled and photographed the Lewis and Clark Trail from Fort Massac in Illinois to Fort Clatsop in Oregon. I have also photographed 1200 miles of the Oregon Trail, 900 miles of the Mormon Historic Trail and 300 miles of the Santa Fe Trail. In Illinois I have followed the historic trails of George Rogers Clark, Lewis and Clark, Abraham Lincoln, and early French settlers of the American Bottoms.
I love presenting powerpoint slide programs of my travels and have made over 130 of such presentations to libraries, service clubs, audubon clubs, camera clubs, etc.
To date I have had ten photo essay articles published and have sold the rights to use over 40 of my images (including five covers for Illinois Audubon Magazine).
I sincerely hope you enjoy looking at the images as much as I enjoyed making them.
Thanks,
Don Chamberlain
